About Kathy

License under Kathryn Sanguinetti, LMFT #48065

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master of Science in Counseling, MFT from San Francisco State University. I have been working with adults and adolescents since 2003 and became licensed in California in 2010.  I’m a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

I received my foundational clinical training at Family Service Agency of Marin, where I worked with adults in an outpatient mental health clinic. That training was rooted in a psychodynamic approach and gave me a strong foundation in depth-oriented, relational work.

A cairn, or stacked pile of rocks signifies peace and calm.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings—supporting teens in outpatient substance use treatment, counseling college students at San Francisco State University, and providing care to adults in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs at the La Selva Group. I have also worked in community mental health with adults at Momentum for Health. These experiences continue to inform my work and have deepened my appreciation for each person’s unique story and capacity for change.

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic, attachment-based, and mindfulness-oriented perspectives. I integrate CBT to help ppeople better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors with a goal of increasing positive emotions.

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, self-criticism, and identity concerns. My goal is to create a collaborative and reflective space where people can explore their inner experience, develop new tools for coping, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.

My practice is an inclusive, open-minded, and safe space for all people. This includes providing affirmative therapy for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Working Together

Psychotherapy provides a space to slow down, reflect, and focus on yourself. Sharing your story and making room for your emotions is an act of courage—and often the first step toward healing. My role is to support you by offering a safe, non-judgmental environment where you feel seen and heard. Together, with curiosity and compassion, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy. Through this process, we’ll deepen your awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns—helping to identify what may be getting in the way of ease, connection, and overall well-being.

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are."
